New Memory Tapes

If you haven’t heard of the music group called Memory Tapes, then I am terribly sorry. Granted, there are those who will tell you “…that Memory Tapes is pretty damn hipster, but that doesn’t mean you can’t like them.”

The music moods range from somber to sexy to ethereal to whimsical with a dash of dancey sprinkled in.

The vocals are androgynous and calming, regardless of the tempo of each song. But it’s the music itself (and the beats) that make this group worth a listen. I can assure you at least one of their songs will invoke some distant emotion reminiscent of longing or thoughtfulness. If not, it’s also good for late night “studying” or falling asleep.

Here’s some samples from the new album, Piano Player, out this July  (2011).

“Wait in the Dark” – A pleasant, bouncy tune with contrasting lyrics, as seems the rage these days with indie music. Fresh production win here, give it a few listens and see how it grows on you.

“Sun Hits” – This one’s a little more upbeat than the usual M.O.

“Fell Thru Ice” – Now turn the lights down and space out…

Now if you missed out on the previous album, do yourself a favor and “Seek Magic” (2009).

Here are some highlights to get you started.

“Swimming Field” – Welcome to Wonderland.

“Bicycle” – The hipster’s paradise.

“Treeship” – Study for an exam or have an out-of-body experience, up to you. BYO windchimes.
